About the Program

Q. Are these courses accredited?
A. Drake University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, Drake is reviewed and accredited in Iowa by the Iowa Board of Educational examiners. Call 800-76-TEACH for more information.

Q. Will this course transfer to my master's degree program?
A. Graduate credit may be transferable if you receive prior approval from the university you are attending for your degree program. Please check with your advisor. Current Drake University graduate students may use these credits as an elective in a degree program with advisor approval. Credits awarded by Drake may be applicable for professional recertification or salary adjustments. Check your state education agency or local school district guidelines.

Q. How quickly can I expect my grade to be issued?
A. Grades will be posted within eight weeks after you submit your course work for a video class and within three weeks from the last day of your online course.

Q. Where can I check my grade?
A. Drake students can access their course grades online at www.drake.edu/students. Simply type in your student ID number and your PIN (your birthdate: month/day/year).

Q. Can I get my coursework graded faster?
A. Drake does offer expedited grading. The instructor will grade your materials and report a letter grade to the registrar within five school days after receipt of your course work. The expedited grading fee is $75 per course. You must submit a check payable to Drake University with your coursework and include a written request for expedited grading.

Q. What if I am on vacation or unavailable for a week due to a previous commitment during an online course?
A. Some instructors prefer that you submit your assignments early, others will have you catch up the week you return. Communication is key. As soon as you are aware of this pending absence, please send your instructor an e-mail with the dates you will be away from your computer, preferably not to exceed one week. Rest assured that if you work with your instructor, an alternate plan can be agreed upon for any minimal online absence.

Q. What if I need an extension to complete my course?
A. You have one year to the semester to complete your coursework. An extension of the course completion deadline is not available. There are no exceptions. Failure to comply with the completion deadline will result in a grade of "W" (withdrawal) entered on your Drake University student record for the course. No tuition refund is available for a grade of a "W," but you may keep your course materials, including videotapes and textbooks.
